Riding on Day Two
Herceg Novi to Kotor
The ride today was much more relaxed than yesterday and was only 31 miles (10 miles less than day one). It was also flatter. It was still very hot to be riding and I could feel the sweat trickling down my back.
The ride itself has become a blur in my mind and I need to look at photographs and videos to recollect the day. I remember our rest stop at a coffee shop inside an old railroad car and having a lunch of cheese or meat burek. It didn’t appeal to me at that moment, so I didn’t eat any lunch. I was terrified as we rode into Kotor where there was a lot of vehicle traffic and obstacles.
We got to our hotel, a few kilometers from the city center, called the Hotel Splendido. While others opted to walk back to town and climb the old ruins, I was too hot and tired and just wanted to relax. But that would have to wait a bit until we drug our bags down a flight of stairs, cross a courtyard and climb back up two flights. Another rustic hotel, though pretty, without an elevator. I really need to learn how to pack much lighter!
After settling into the room, William napped while I went in search of food for a late lunch. I ate at the hotel’s restaurant with a light meal of salad and grilled sea bass. It was so tasty! After I ate, I put on my bathing suit and went for a quick dip in the pool to cool off.
We celebrated our years together with a splendid dinner of black risotto, potatoes, grilled squid, grilled octopus and grill sea bass, followed by pavlova for dessert.
The next morning was very disappointing. Breakfast didn’t start until 8:30am, so I couldn’t get any coffee (there was none in the room). When breakfast finally opened, the options were lacking and the coffee tasted horrible (it was instant). William couldn’t even find milk for his tea as there was only a yogurt drink to put on cereal.
