Cross-Country Road Trip Day 7

Cross-Country Road Trip Day 7

After a quick breakfast of a leftover burrito, I went on a 3.5 mile bike ride. I had wanted to do a much longer ride, but the weather was not cooperating. It was so cloudy, my GPS wouldn’t register on my phone, so I couldn’t tell where I was going. Plus, my glasses and side mirror kept fogging up and misting rain was making my glasses messy. Add that it was a bit chilly riding.

Back at the hotel I thought to take a nap, but then I thought, “why are we sitting in the hotel all day with nothing to do since the weather is so bad?” So, we packed up and headed to PA to my dad’s house a day early. I didn’t care that I spent money on a second night at the hotel and wouldn’t get it back.

On the way to Dover, PA, we stopped in Duncannon for some ice cream. This ice cream place has been around since I was a kid. They changed names, but it’s still the same ice cream I remember with over two dozen flavors and huge scoops! It was perfect for a long, hot day of driving!

The closer I got to dad’s house, the more I could hear a high frequency noise coming from outside the car. Wand couldn’t hear it until I stopped for gas and opened the car door. It was crazy loud outside! It turns out that the 17-year cicadas had emerged from the ground and they were everywhere!

At dad’s place, the cicadas were swarming around the tree next to the house. The cat and dog kept snapping at them. They would also attach to our clothes and drive us crazy.

It was hot, so we didn’t stay outside for long…just long enough to get the bags inside!
