Harvest Century
After riding Reach the Beach, I collected my car back in Littlerock and drove to Forest Grove, OR. I got there well after dark and checked in at the Best Western, one of my favorite hotel chains.
I was exhausted from the long bike ride that morning and the drive south, so I went to bed fairly early (for me).
The next morning, I only had to drive about a half mile to the start location at a resort hotel. After parking in the back 40 (so many bike events end up parking in a farm field with huge ruts and make the whole car bounce), I rode my bike to the actual starting point, picked up my registration packet and ate some breakfast from the buffet. Originally, I was going to ride the metric century (62 miles) but was pretty tired from the day before and changed to the 40-mile route.
The route promised to take me by numerous farms, but only one had enough interest for me to stop and take a photo of it. Fields were already harvested, so I didn’t even get to see anything but dirt as I rode by.
When I finished, I had another hour before the lunch buffet would be served. I didn’t want to wait, so I loaded up my bike and started the five hour drive back home.
