Impromptu Fall Ride Around Seattle

After a week of yucky rainy weather, I took advantage of some nice fall weather and hopped on my bike to improve my mood. I had no route or destination in mind when I left the house – I just knew I needed to ride before rain moved back in.
I’m more of a fair weather bike rider. Since I wear prescription glasses and can no longer wear contacts, I find it difficult to see clearly when it rains. Plus, I don’t have much in the way of wet weather gear other than my bike jacket.
I decided to head south on Latona to the Burke Gilman Trail. Instead of going around the north part of Lake Washington as usual, I headed west into Fremont and Ballard.
In Ballard, I rode to the locks and walked my bike across them to Magnolia where I rode around Discovery Park. After the massive hill at Discovery Park, I was glad to head down hill into Magnolia and connect with the Elliott Bay Trail.
I rode the trail through Elliott Bay Park, Century Park and Myrtle Edwards Park and ended up at Pier 57 where I picked up some halibut and chips. It was lovely eating my lunch at the Waterfront Park, something I rarely get to do, especially on a weekday with less tourist traffic.
After finishing my lunch, I rode to south Lake Union and got on the Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop back to Fremont, then home.
I’ll be doing more of these impromptu rides when there is a break in the fall and winter weather!
