Islandwood
Islandwood is a 250-acre outdoor learning center on Bainbridge Island. During the school year, local schools send children in elementary school (usually grades 4-6) to spend four days/3 nights in the dormitory on campus. The kids get school credit since it’s a learning environment.
The center also accepts donations from visitors who want to hike or bike the many trails on the property.
I visited on a weekend and was taken on a tour of the campus by a naturalist who was living on campus while working on his graduate degree. He would often ask us questions, like those he would ask school children, to make us think about our surroundings and notice more as we hiked.
I took my nephew and grand-daughters with me on a different trip to this location.
