Kathmandu

For the record, to figure out the time here, subtract 15 minutes from Seattle time, then make it the opposite of your time of day. So right now it is 9:23am which means it is around 9:38pm U.S. time.

Probably Friday or Saturday I will fly down to Chitwan Nation Park and spend a couple of days. Activities there will include a jungle hike, watching them bath the elephants and an elephant safari (where the elephants will run alongside rhinos).

Back in Kathmandu, I hope I can capture the extreme poverty of the place in my pictures. I know I can’t save the world, but it makes me feel good to know I’m contributing in a very small way by sponsoring Arun. When I do my photo show at the Mountaineers in May, I hope can also line up some potential sponsors to talk to Earle. I may go to an orphanage while here, so I’ll have even more heart-wrenching photos.

When I got back to the guesthouse yesterday, I was informed that there was a better room for me. I gladly switched, though the room still is marginal. At least I now have a toilet seat that is attached and a place to hang my clothes. It’s also right beside Earle’s room.
