Madrid
We were supposed to spend another night in Dubrovnik, but our airline, ITA, emailed me to say they had to change our flights. Not only was the time different, but a full day earlier! That meant we wouldn’t be staying in Dubrovnik and I had to contact our travel agent to secure us a hotel and transfers in Madrid. Our flight from Madrid to Jerez wasn’t until the following late afternoon.
When we got to the airport in Dubrovnik, I learned they only changed my tickets, but not William’s. WTF? Why would an airline change it for one person who is traveling with another and the tickets purchased together?! It took about 30 minutes for them to get William on the same flight to Rome where we would then transfer to Madrid.
In Rome, we had to get transfer boarding passes and learned that again William wasn’t on the flight. That took about another hour to get straightened out. I guess I won’t be flying on ITA ever again!!
By the time we got to Madrid and transferred to our hotel, it was late and we didn’t go to sleep until around 2am.
Since we had until 4pm to be at the airport, we opted to take a tour of the palace. It was a good choice!
After the tour, we had paella at an outdoor restaurant along with tinto de verano (red wine mixed with lemon Fanta and served with ice). Soon, it was time to call a taxi and head back to the hotel for our transfer to the airport.
Once checked in at the airport, we walked around window shopping. I found a shop called Mango that had really cute clothing at reasonable prices (at an airport, no less). I bought a red and white bold print dress.
The flight to Jerez wasn’t very long and we arrived around 9pm. Marcus picked us up and took us to our apartment which we had booked through Hotels.com. It was perfect and only a 10 minute walk to Marcus’ place!
We said good to Marcus and made arrangements for him to pick us up in the morning.
