Passport 2 Pain 2021 – Weenie Route

I had been wanting to ride on Vashon Island, so I was pleased to stumble upon the Passport 2 Pain event. I opted for the “Weenie” route since I wasn’t sure what the hills would be luck, plus with hills, I never know how many miles I can get per battery.

I drove to the island on Friday night and slept in the hatchback of my car (I had an air mattress and it was quite comfortable). To kill time before bed, I went to the Night Light Drive-In to see a movie. the 2009 Star Trek movie was playing.

It was after 10pm by the time I got to my “camping” stop at the AYH Ranch. I tossed and turned for a very long time before falling asleep. I don’t think I got much more than five hours of sleep before my alarm went off at 6am and it was time to get up.

I ate part of a Danish and a couple bites of cottage cheese, then drove to the start location. Check-in wasn’t until 7am, but the line was already getting long. We weren’t allowed to start until 7:30am, and then in groups of 2-3 people every minute. I think I left around 7:45am.

I’m very glad that I did the Weenie – the hills were killer even with my electric assist! There were a couple of hills that were steep enough to have me moving at a crawl and doubting if I’d make it to the top (I did)!

It took me 2 hours and 53 minutes, but that included five stops for food/drinks and toilet facilities. Actual ride time was 2 hours and 32 minutes.
