Port Townsend Tour

Port Townsend Tour

The Night Before

I took the ferry from Edmonds to Kingston and drove to Port Townsend where I would be camping in a tent at Fort Worden State Park. I had a lovely site that included electric so I could charge my batteries each night after riding all day.

After setting up camp, I unloaded my bike and went on a short ride around the park and to the beach. There I found some bull kelp that had freshly washed up onto the shore, so I broke off a piece to take back home. I wanted to make kelp pickles since I had tried some that were store bought.

Dinner was some chicken I made in the air fryer at home and some cherry tomatoes.

Tour Day 1

I met up with Teresa on the first day. It had been a while since she had ridden in Port Townsend and was still dealing with her blood cancer. I showed her places she could bail if she couldn’t ride the full route.

Along the route, I stopped at a farm store and bought some celery and blueberries. Further along, I stopped and picked a bunch of blackberries along the road.

At the lunch stop, I noticed there was peanut butter, so I grabbed a rib of my celery and slathered on the peanut butter for a crunchy appetizer before a wonderful chicken salad on pita bread.

After I finished the route, I headed back to camp where I took a little nap in my hammock.

We had a social at the winery that evening and were encouraged to bring our own food. I had a lovely meal of some canned mackerel in oil, crackers, cherry tomatoes, rustic bread with butter, berries and a tasting flight of wine.

Tour Day 2

The route on day two went through Fort Worden and the batteries. Lunch was at Alpenwine Cidery where we had wood-fired pizzas that were the bomb!

Since a storm was moving in that would include lightening, I opted to pack up my camping gear and head back home. I did not want to be stuck in a tent during a thunderstorm nor ride in the rain the third day.
