Rattle Dem Bones 2021

Rattle Dem Bones 2021

I signed up for the Rattle Dem Bones Halloween costume bike ride in Gig Harbor a month or so ago. Originally, I was going to dress up as a fairy (tutu, wings, pointy ears and flower crown) and decorate my bike with ivy and flowers. Last night, after looking at the hourly weather forecast, I changed my mind and decided to wear something warmer.

I had ridden 5.6 miles yesterday and was so cold, in spite of wearing two layers plus a jacket and full gloves. I didn’t want to be that cold today, especially since I’ve been dragging after donating blood last week and not getting enough sleep.

So, I borrowed my husband’s Pegasus unicorn onesie and wore it over my other layers. The added bonus was that the hood (the head) went over my bike helmet and kept my ears warm, too!

I got to Gig Harbor around 8:15, unloaded my bike and donned the costume. Around the time I picked up my bib number, my friend, Sonya, arrived with her band of convicts (they were all dressed up in prison garb). After some photos, we got started on the route.

Another change is that I decided to do the Son of the Monster ride instead of the Monster Hill ride since I wasn’t feeling up to a longer one.

Within a mile or so, we all got confused by the route. I finally figured out that there was a small off-shoot to some restrooms, but then the route headed back in the direction we came then veered off from it.

I saw my friends once later on when I took a short break in Gig Harbor near the marina. I ride much faster, though, so I didn’t see them again. In fact, I rode so fast over the last half of the route because I had to pee like a racehorse! LOL

I’m glad I did the ride and took advantage of the good weather (I almost slept in and said screw it). Now I have two days to rest before loading up the bike, picking up a friend, and heading to southern California to Bike the Coast.

Spread the love
