Riding on Day 4
The weather isn’t as hot today and we are riding on the Ciro Trail through Bosnia. This is my kind of riding! We’re out of traffic and are allowed to go at our own pace, so I’m able to stop and take lots of pictures. This trail reminds me of the Palouse to Cascades trail in WA, but paved instead of gravel.
Halfway along the trail, one of the riders from Brazil gets a flat. William zooms off to let our leader know. I look behind me and the support van is right there, but it’s too late to call him back.
At the end of the trail, we suddenly get a burst of frigid air, like somebody turned on the A/C. It appears that there is a cave and the leader says we can do a tour after our lunch.
Our lunch of goulash is at an inn run by a wonderful man who really likes to get to know his guests. He has a pool table inside and loves to play against his guests.
After lunch, I’m the only one who opts not to go on the tour inside the cave. It’s only around 29 degrees inside and I don’t have a jacket. Instead I sit outside and talk to travelers from Germany while William does the tour and takes lots of photos.
When the tour is over, we continue on to Ravnov where we will be spending the night in a quaint inn. There’s no elevator, but someone carries my heavy bag up to our room. After getting settled, William took a nap while I went on a walk.
We ate dinner as a group tonight and the inn made us a special meal of roasted veal ribs, potatoes and a tomato cucumber salad. There was also homemade bread and lots of wine.
William was late to join everyone and ended up sitting at the opposite end of the table by the Brazilians and didn’t look like he was comfortable (only a couple of them spoke English). After I ate, I moved to beside him and encourage conversation. He relaxed a bit, but I don’t think I’ll put him in that situation again.
The next morning, William had gotten up before me and went for a walk. He returned with a small bouquet of wild flowers and a cappuccino for me. He’s such a keeper!
Breakfast at the inn was wonderful. They had made omelets and warm chocolate croissants!
