Sand-sation Weekend
What a change in weather! At the parking lot of the light house, it was hot. I was wearing capris and a strapless top, so my shoulders were bare. A quarter mile down the trail at the light house, it was misting from the fog, windy and cold!
Next, I drove over to Oregon across the Astoria bridge and to the state park nearby. I saw a lot of brown pelicans there.
The next day was the sand castle competition. It was interesting watching how these “sculptures” were built and how many people it took to get them just right! I think my favorite was the one called Up (after the animated movie). I also had a lot of fun photographing the many gulls that were begging for food. Some were missing their feet.
On the way home, I decided to stop at Mount St. Helen. This is the volcanic mountain that blew its top on May 18, 1980. I had been stationed in Germany at the time and remember hearing it on the news. A month later, we were getting volcanic ash fallout on our vehicles!
